Frequently Asked Questions
Take a look at our most frequently asked questions regarding sunless tanning.
What is a spray tan (sunless tanning, spray tanning, airbrush tanning)?
A spray tan, also known as airbrush tanning or sunless tanning, is simply the application of a specially formulated solution that is sprayed over the entire body. The solution has an ingredient in it called Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) that interacts with your own skin’s chemistry to turn it tan, or bronze. There are different solutions I use and we will work together to find the color that will work best with your skin tone.
The spray tan has a temporary effect that usually lasts from 7-12 days (although this time may vary depending on post care) and is completely safe for your skin. The solutions I use are manufactured by Sjolie Sunless in which they choose to use the finest naturally derived ingredients, paraben free, erythrulose free and fragrance free. Your spray tan will not provide any protection against the sun’s rays, so remember to use sunblock when outside.
What is DHA?
The main ingredient in the spray tan solutions I use is DHA (dihydroxyacetone), which is FDA approved for topical use. DHA has been approved as a cosmetic ingredient since 1973. DHA, also known as glycerine, is made mainly from sugar beets and sugar cane. The American Academy of Dermatology confirms the most effective sunless tanning products contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient. DHA is colorless and it interacts with the amino acids in dead skin cells to produce a brown color change. Since these dead skin cells are constantly being shed, the color change produced by DHA usually lasts about a week, but roughly 7-12 days depending on the post care. The time frame will vary and will be discussed during your first appointment. DHA is not absorbed through the skin into the body and it has no known toxicity.
Will I turn orange after a spray tan with you?
I am not a huge fan of that word, but NO! I am certified and professionally trained. I will customize your tan to your skin tone leaving you with a very natural and beautiful glow.
Do I need to sign a release form? I am pregnant, can I tan?
Yes, every client that will be spray tanned will need to sign a release form and client info sheet before spray tan may occur. Minors must have guardians signature.
For pregnant client's: Although there is no known negative effects to spray tanning, I require a clearance from your OBGYN if you are pregnant. Please have this information before your appointment.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
Yes, We require 24 hours notice. I totally understand that emergenices come up and that is no problem. I am very flexible and I will work with all my clients if they do the same. Fees will be charged according to the situtation.
What do I wear when I am getting a spray tan?
Whatever you are most comfortable with. Many people wear swim suits, their own under garments or I can provide you with complimentary disposable undergarments and/or tops. All men and women must wear bottoms during spray tan.
Do you tan men?
I will spray tan couples, but Bronze My Assets will not spray tan men alone for mobile appointments. When a male is spray tanned, undergarments or swim trunks must be worn.
What do I do to prepare and care for my tan?
Waxing and pedicures should be done at least 2 days prior to your session.
The most important pre-step is to exfoliate. If you exfoliate regularly, 24 hours prior to your tan is acceptable. If you do not exfoliate regularly, exfoliate 24-48 hours prior to your tan. Use of a spa grade exfoliator is highly recommended. Avoid bar soap if possible (ex. Dove, Dial or bar soap)
Fill out all paperwork prior to your session and be sure to ask questions.
If you need to shower the day of your spray tan, it should be done at least 4 hours prior to your session. Only use warm water to rinse your body off since most commonly known body washes and soaps can leave a residue. This residue can act as a barrier to the sunless tanning solution. Showering immediately before your session could cause your pores to open. Open pores will allow the solution to penetrate causing a "freckled" look.
Do not apply deodorant, perfume, body oils or moisturizer to the skin (unless advised by your tanning professional) as this can create an uneven tan.
Wear dark, loose fitting cotton clothing to avoid visual rub off or staining of your clothing.
Avoid any activity that would cause sweating. Contact with water or sweat could result in lines or uneven tanning.
Wait at least 8-12 hours before showering after your spray tan (check with your tanning professional with specific time frames to achieve the best results).
If you choose to sleep in your spray tan, wear a long sleeve cotton shirt and long cotton bottoms.
The life of your spray tan depends on how well you take care of your skin. It is important to always pat dry when exiting the shower.
Moisturizing once a day with a tan extender lotion can add 2 to 3 days to the life of your tan. It is important to moisturize 2-3 times a day if possible with a product that does not contain mineral oil.
It is also important to use a gentle non-acidic body wash to avoid stripping your tan.
The following products have been shown to reduce the duration and quality of your tan: Anti-Aging, Acne products, and bar soap.
If at all possible, you should try to avoid contact with chlorine. This can lead to premature fading of the spray tan.
How do I pay for my spray tanning services and how much will it be?
I accept cash and all major credit cards. I have a swiping device that I will bring with me to all my appointments. I currently do not accept "Venmo" as a form as payment nor are checks are accepted. The cost will depend on what service you want as well as if you would like to purchase any sunless tanning products. All the prices are listed on the "Book It" page.
Why do your mobile appointments take 60 mins for a spray tan? I've had them before and none of them take an hour.
With Bronze My Assets mobile service, I will have to account for drive time, consultation, set up, and break down of all the equipment. The first visit is always the longest because we do a lot of talking and I will give you tips of how to take care of your tan. The actual process of spraying tanning a client is quick; anywhere between 10-15 mins. I will do A LOT of talking during the first visit because I am ALL about educating and answering questions.
How is Bronze My Assets different from other similar businesses?
This is the same question that I asked myself when I decided to start Bronze My Assets. I thought to myself, how am I different, what will make me different than all the other spray tanning companies? The answer was simple. Providing the best service, in a timely manner, having fun, and always focusing on the client. Communication, constant education, and follow ups are very important when you become a client of mine. From your first contact, I will communicate with you through all the steps. Being spray tanned by a total stranger, and being half naked, can be a little stressful. I always do my best to make everyone comfortable and you will not feel like you are being judged. I will also tell you exactly what I am doing and why. The first time I was sprayed tan by a person, I was lost. I had no idea what "barrier cream" was, or if I was supposed to shower etc? I am also VERY thorough. There's nothing worse to me then being felt rushed. I want to make sure my client's are comfortable and have all the information they need to achieve the best results with their new color.
Are there any "extra" fees that could be added to my appointment other than what is listed?
There could be extra charges for added services, sunless products, and if you are a mobile customer, there may be mileage and/or parking fees depending on location. For example, upgrade to a "quick dry" tan, 2 or more coats of solution, mobile service to hotels, resorts or other locations as some venues will charge for parking. When you are interested in booking an appointment, please inquire about any possible fees. I also have products that can be purchased at the time of your appointment.
In the price listed for your spray tanning, what is included in that price?
The following items are included and are at no extra charge per session:
Where are you located?
I currently reside in Saint Hedwig, Texas (I know it sounds funny but I'm pretty much in Schertz). Although I started out only doing mobile appointments, I am currently only providing on-site appointment at my on-site studio at my home. Mobile appointments are available by request only. Please be advised that there will be an extra charge for mobile appoinments.
How much are your services?
This question is obviously a frequently asked question. Cost for any service is always wanted before an appointment is made for obvious reasons.
